Durant, Thunder face Spurs in Alamo City
Basketball Betting Lines
02/24/2010 -
(Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The winning streak is over for young star Kevin Durant and
the Oklahoma City Thunder, who will try to get back on track Wednesday with a
road test against the San Antonio Spurs at the AT&T Center.
Oklahoma City's nine-game winning streak was halted in last night's 104-102
home loss versus the Phoenix Suns. Jason Richardson's basket with 0.7 seconds
remaining in the game sealed the win for the Suns, while Durant poured in 36
points and has now scored at least 25 points in 29 straight games. Durant, the
leading scorer in the NBA with 29.9 ppg, continues to inch closer to legend
Michael Jordan, who scored 25-plus points in 40 straight games during the
1986-87 season.
"Well, we had a nice run going and there's nothing to be ashamed of," said
Thunder head coach Scott Brooks, whose team went 0-for-10 down the stretch.
"We stubbed our toe tonight. I liked the way our guys fought. We didn't have
our good stuff defensively and we were down early and we battled back and took
a 10-point lead. We had a good run. They made plays. They made some big plays,
big shots down the stretch."
Russell Westbrook finished with 21 points and 10 assists, while Jeff Green
added 16 points and six rebounds in defeat. Westbrook is averaging 24.6 points
in his last three games. Oklahoma City, the sixth seed in the West, has won
five straight road games and is 17-11 away from the Ford Center this season.
The Spurs are back home after their Rodeo Road Trip to start the month and
went 4-4 on the excursion. They lost the last two tests of the swing and are
coming off Sunday's 109-101 overtime loss in Detroit.
Future Hall of Famer Tim Duncan registered 29 points and 10 rebounds for San
Antonio, which played without guard Tony Parker because of a hip problem. Manu
Ginobili and George Hill netted 21 and 17 points, respectively, in a losing
cause. Over the last eight years since moving to the AT&T Center, the Spurs'
combined record on the Rodeo Road Trip is 44-20.
"Like many NBA games down the stretch you need to make shots and Detroit did.
We shot poorly from three again and it made a difference for us. In the end it
comes down to making shots down the stretch," said Spurs coach Gregg Popovich.
Parker is listed as questionable tonight against Oklahoma City. The Spurs sit
3 1/2 games off the lead in the Southwest Division and seventh in the
conference standings. They will try to work on their 19-10 home mark tonight.
The 2009-10 season series between the Spurs and Thunder is tied at a game
apiece, but San Antonio has won 20 of the last 27 meetings between the clubs.

The 2009 AP NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year odds have been released and Denver Broncos' running back Knowshon Moreno has been made the opening favorite.
Bet NFL Sports Lines
Moreno was selected in the first round of April's NFL draft and is expected to carry the rushing load for the Broncos this season. And with Jay Cutler now in Chicago, Moreno might be expected to be Denver's entire offense.
Betting Lines from sports betting lines have made Moreno a 5/2 favorite to win this year's Offensive Rookie of the Year Award. Fellow running back Chris “Beanie” Wells (Arizona Cardinals) is right behind Moreno at 7/2, while Donald Brown (Indianapolis Colts) and receiver Michael Crabtree (San Francisco 49ers) are 5/1 to win. Quarterbacks Mark Sanchez (New York Jets) and Matthew Stafford (Detroit Lions) are 7/1 and 8/1, respectively.
A couple of players who present some value are Josh Freeman, Shonn Green and Darrius Heyward-Bey.
Freeman needs to beat out Byron Leftwich to become the starting quarterback of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers but if he does, he has a lot or raw talent and could use the weapons around him (i.e. Kellen Winslow Jr. and Antonio Bryant) to be very successful in his first season.
Green enters a crowded backfield in New York, but considering both Thomas Jones and Leon Washington are unhappy about their contract situations and might holdout, the former Iowa product could become the Jets' primary back.
Everyone was shocked when Al Davis took Heyward-Bey with the eighth overall pick in April's draft, but the kid has a tremendous amount of talent and if quarterback JaMarcus Russell takes the next step this year, the former Maryland product could blossom. Plus, Heyward-Bey will be looking to prove the people wrong who said Oakland should have taken Michael Crabtree with the No. 8 pick.
And if you're looking for a deep sleeper, check out Pat White at 30/1. He enters the Miami Dolphins vaunted “Wild Cat” offense and could be a big time playmaker.
